3 x Why Teachers Make Great Entrepreneurs Engaging Screenagers
Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me why I blog about teachers and entrepreneurs after she read my blog on entrepreneurs teaching at universities.
BTW, when I write about entrepreneurs in this blog, I’m focusing more on digital marketing entrepreneurs.
I agree there are many other genres of entrepreneurs, but now days most all entrepreneurs will be involved in digital marketing to get funding or promote their products and services.
You are probably wondering how I came to observe this phenomenon, aren’t you?

When I started learning digital marketing, for my Mass Communication courses, I met several teachers, and noticed that teachers who got into digital marketing as entrepreneurs tended to be wildly successful.
So in my normal, straightforward way, I started asking questions like, “Why are teachers so successful at digital marketing?
Here are 3 reasons I’ve found Why teachers are so successful at digital marketing.
Why 1)
Think about it, high (secondary) school and university teachers are with, around, and observing Engaging Screenagers’ Moments of Growth (optimal engagement) most every day when they go to work.
At work, teachers are watching Engaging Screenagers change, adapt, and try new things and behaviors for Moments of Growth with technology and mobile devices(optimal engagement)

Remember, this Engaging Screenagers group has very little commitment or attachment to past traditions, so they loveto try new behaviors and things with mobile devices.
This means that every day, teachers are watching new mobile device Moments of Growth trends and behaviors and as the teachers watch, they are learning.
So when teachers try digital marketing they have a huge advantage because they’ve been working with these Engaging Screenagers all day, everyday.
Why 2)
Along with observing Engaging Screenagers’ Moments of Growth, teachers have been adopting technology tools to teach content to their students, and digital marketing is quite similar in form and function.
I found teachers who have been teaching with technology tools for only less than 1 year seem to have enough confidence with technology to bridge (quite easily) into digital marketing. (optimal engagement)
Many teachers already have their content online, so all they do is set up their digital marketing process and they’re in business.
You are asking, “How is digital marketing similar to teaching?”
  • Teachers set up their technology processes in similar ways with both teaching and digital marketing.
  • Teachers find that the technology has similar levels of difficulty both for teaching with technology and for digital marketing.
  • Teachers already build new relationships with their students every year.
  • Teachers already use tools to share learning content with students. (Isn’t that like content marketing?)
  • Teachers already use technology tools to inspire, excite, and persuade students to take action in the classroom so digital marketing is quite similar.
  • Teachers already know how to build trust with their students. (Isn’t trust lacking in a lot of our mainstream marketing now days?)
Because the teachers have been teaching and interacting with Engaging Screenagers online, many teachers are quite comfortable with the online environment.
Isn’t it a teacher’s job to build trust with, inspire, excite, and persuade students to engage with and learn the content. (optimal engagement)
Isn’t that what content marketing is all about, building trust and getting the public inspired, excited, and persuaded to engage with and learn the content? (optimal engagement)
Why 3)
Most teachers I’ve met start as digital marketers for 2 reasons and they are, first, for extra side income, and second, to supplement their retirement.
When teachers start as digital marketers, they realize they only give a little time every day to monitor their systems after their automated systems are set up.
With the nature of teaching, there are times of the year teachers set up their digital marketing and then there are times during the normal teaching day to monitor (if needed) their marketing systems. (optimal engagement)
The teachers who just want to make extra income have been successful because they use a little of their free time to give a quick check in their system instead of hanging out in the in the teacher’s lounge.
One teacher also mentioned to me that part of her success was related to desperation because she didn’t have a large retirement and wasn’t confident about her retirement even being there when she wanted to retire. (junk engagement)
Therefore she was determined to build up her retirement on her own so she could look herself in the mirror and say she felt confident that she would have a nice retirement.
Now days it is common to see articles about how budgets are being cut, and retirement packages are of little value or being taken away completely.
Schools and universities are cutting back and hiring fewer full time teachers, and hiring  more part time teachers (with little or no benefits.)
As is not uncommon to frequently see budget cuts and budgets reduced, the teachers are turning to another, second way to generate income and supplement their retirement.
Epilogue)
NOTE: I am not advocating teachers market to their students.
I am saying teachers can observe trending behaviors of Engaging Screenagers, and combine what the teachers have learned with their teaching skills to build more value for our society.
No, I am not saying every teacher will be a successful digital marketer.
I’m saying that the teachers who have used their powers of observation, and used their technology understanding and tools, have been showing great strengths in digital marketing.
As I’ve blogged before, teaching is one of the most important and valuable assets in our society, but teachers have hard jobs and (I feel) they don’t get rewarded for their value.

Actually, how popular is online learning and training becoming on the internet over the past few years?
Because teachers have already been teaching courses, teaching on the internet makes teachers naturals to build-up their online digital marketing entrepreneurships.
As a teacher, scholar, researcher, and entrepreneur, I can see there is great potential for teachers who are ready to take the next step for financial stability and independence.
Tomorrow I will blog about how when teachers become entrepreneurs they become better teachers with more broad points of view and more authentic examples for their students.
Can’t you see how teachers can build on their knowledge, skills, and understanding of Engaging Screenagers, to build value for our society?
Isn’t that what entrepreneurs do; I mean, don’t entrepreneurs build value for our society?
Wouldn’t it be a shame if a good teacher, who depended on the system, lost her or his whole retirement with no backup, and wouldn’t it be a shame if it was you or your child’s teacher?

Teachers become entrepreneurs—build more value for society.
