6 Values-eWorkbooks Are Always With You Engaging Screenagers

Yesterday I blogged about how everyone from Engaging Screenagers to C-level executives could review learning material from our courses. “in their hands right after class.”

Well, this morning I got a email question asking, “How does that happen?
Value 1)
Due to the nature of eWorkbooks, when participants submit their responses participants will instantly receive and email in their inboxes. (optimal engagement)
Yes, the email is sent right away (optimal engagement,) so participants don’t wait like they did in the past. (junk engagement)
What does that mean?
Value 2)
What I means is, when you use your mobile device to complete the eWorkbook and submit your responses, the eWorkbook will automatically send an email to your inbox that contains the questions, the slides, the videos, etc, as well as the responses you submitted. (optimal engagement)
Learners can instantly look at their mobile devices and review their learning, and we encourage them to make this review a habit.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
Why is it important?
Value 3)
You can instantly see the learning your responses, scores (if any of the questions were graded,on your mobile device(optimal engagement)
Around the world educators endorse reviewing learning notes right after class, and this kicks that process to a higher level when you can see your notes next to the learning content slides, videos, images, etc.
What about the benefits of social learning?
Value 4)
Also, most all of the time (but not always), I give my students and training participants access to the (automatically generated) Google analytic summaries of their learning.
Seeing these automatically generated learning analytic summaries, participants can learn from others’ responses, so they can compare their own learning. (optimal engagement)
How does the learning stay with me?
Value 5)
This means all of your learning is on your mobile device which is always with you in your hands (or pocket, or wherever you hold your mobile device.)
An example I like to use in seminars/workshops/keynotes is you are leaving for work and when you are 10 minutes from your home:
  • If you forget your money, don’t you just borrow some from a friend?
  • If you forget your keys, don’t you just ask someone for their help?
  • If you forget your mobile device, don’t you just turn around and go back home and get it?
As humans, we have become more and more determined to keep our information/communication device with use than we are keeping most anything else. (optimal engagement)

If our learning experiences (content and our responses) are on our devices we are much more likely to review the learning, and we do that especially if it is only 2-3 clicks away.
We recommend participants save an icon on their homescreen/homepage and desktop, so they can more easily access the content no matter where they are.

I’ve been asked, ‘Wouldn’t it be better to have the answers come straight back to the participants in an app?
Value 6)
First, the addition of an app would require a great deal more learning to master and teach learners to use.
Second, I looked at some apps that gave students instant feedback in the app, and although that is good for a single answer every now and then, it became too distracting for multiple questions and multiple responses.
It seemed this distraction was related to being too fast and easy to access their responses.
The alternative was to let the eWorkbook (using Google Forms) send the learning content and participants responses directly to their email inboxes.(optimal engagement)
We found that having two steps made it better for students because they weren’t continuously switching back to see their responses.
An unexpected benefit was that our students would see their responses email when they were checking their other emails and that reminded them to review their learning over again.
Also, we found that because their learning content and responses were in their inboxes, they could more easily copy and paste their responses and move them around to an eportfolio. (optimal engagement)
Can you imagine the power of students having their learning from class and moving that into an eportfolio so they could review with one touch of a button they saved on their homepage of their mobile device?

By the way, this is as free as getting a Gmail account because eWorkbooks run on Google Forms.
Isn’t our world world changing so fast and doesn’t everyone need to be learning and developing just as fast to keep up?
Parents of Engaging Screenagers’ and workplace trainees, couldn’t you go to your teachers and trainers and demand they use eWorkbooks on Google Forms to make your learning and development easier and more effective?
Aren’t learners going to be penalized in the long run if they can’t have quick access to review their learning and more quickly develop themselves?

Give them instant access to review for much better learning.
