What Engagement Tools Show Sincere Care With Screenagers?

How do you show you care? What will you miss out on if you keep holding back your care?
How will your life be more rich when you engage with sincere care?
Do you remember yesterday?
Though, engagement skills are vital for most everyone, and because our world is becoming more digital every day, sincere engagement is becoming a more and more rare and priceless jewel that says, “I care about you.”
As Dale Carnegie says, “There is no such thing as faking sincerity.”
What are vital engagement tools for connecting Screenagers?
These tools include presenting, questioning and listening, responding, coaching, and business and life relevance to make interactions high value engagement.
As Maria said, “Let’s start at the very beginning.” (My Screenagers kids watched, “The Sound of Music” a while back.)

  • Presenting: This a key that is most often under estimated. During my Dale Carnegie pre-training, the trainer told us our presenting (structure, content, delivery, and impact) must be better than Coca~Cola, because Coke is pumping out millions $$$ to capture people’s attention with junk-engagement.
  • Questioning and listening: In the Dale course, as instructors, we were to ask questions and listen as class members shared in groups, talked during breaks, and presented their talks in front of the class. The skill with that was to make it conversational and not seem like we were interrupting.
  • Responding: We were to respond to class members as if each was the only person in the room. This get’s challenging when the room is full of 44 class members (more members means more variety and improved learning,) 8 graduate assistants, and two instructors.
  • Coaching: The big challenge here was to learn to ask, challenge, encourage, etc. to get class members past sticking points, blind spots, and limiting beliefs in front of the audience while still supporting high self value. This takes continual practice.
  • Business relevance: With most every module we had several opportunities to ask questions relating to class members relevant professional needs. At the beginning of the course we surveyed participants professional wants and needs, and in every module, we referred to the survey quite often.
  • Life relevance: I found this one to be a treasure because it was an opportunity for class members to relate their learning to engage important people in their lives. It is 25 years later and I’ve continued to focus on ways to improve engagement with those you care about most. In fact this blog is devoted to engaging with Screenagers and others who are important to you.
Yes, these are the tools that fanned the fire of my engagement passion.
Actually these tools are quite difficult to use if you want to just engage with another person.
These tools are much easier to use when you really care about about the other person. That caring makes it easier to engage with Screenagers and others.

One day a few years ago, I was leading a train-the-trainer course for university public speaking instructors.
When we began discussing caring, being sincere, and engaging class members, one training participant said, “I am teaching public speaking, I don’t have time to care about being sincere and engaging class members, because I need to help them get high marks on their exams.”
There was stunned silence…
After a few seconds another class member asked, “Why are you here then? Isn’t public speaking class to help students build skills, but isn’t it more important to build the person’s belief in themselves?”
After some discussion, the first participant told everyone in the course, “I really need to re-think why I want to do this, don’t I?”
Later I learned that, by the end of that semester, he had moved into a supervisory role in his division of his university.
I don’t know if that would be any better, because the best supervisor I have ever worked with was the most caring about me and our other team members.
In all of my training, coaching, mentoring, consulting, blogs, videos, and Tweets, I focus on engagement and what is best for learning.
Here is a made-to-interact video showing how to continually collect learning analytics to improve learning.
Engagement tools are all about sincerely caring about others to experience optimal engagement with who and what are most important in their lives.

There is an old saying, “ The good we give out into the world will always come back to us.”

Use engagement tools to give sincere care, you’ll get care.
