"Keep your brand identity consistent," is your 4th point in the checklist to build your online influence.

Remember, follow these points so you won't need to hire me to coach you through the process.

How do you ensure people find you and want to keep following you?

About 2 years ago I struggled to start building my online brand. If you look at my content back then (I pray you don’t) nothing is consistent.

Why do you need to keep your brand identity consistent?

In these days of search engine optimization (SEO) you’ll want to create a consistent brand identity. Being consistent ensures everyone who sees your content hears and feels the same message.

You had better use consistent tones, feelings, and messages with colors, fonts, and logo. So be consistent when you create content, quote people, curate images, and play videos.

When you focus your content, similar topics and words are naturally used quite often. These are key topics and keywords  that attract search engines and therefore followers.

Although this sounds complicated, in the end it makes things easier. Once you have created a well-defined brand identity, you have a roadmap. So you just follow your roadmap as it guides your content and design.

Consistency is based on your brand personality values

“So, what do I need to create?” you ask.

A few days ago I posted questions to guide building your personal brand. One of the guiding questions focuses on brand personality.

When you go through the brand personality builder you craft your brand personality. Also, brand personality, similar to your own personality, will reflect / align with your brand.

As a quick review, the builder helps you focus your brand on 4 personality types. These types are loosely related to Carl Jung’s personality profiles.

For years researchers have developed theories and there are two common threads or what we can call spectrums. One spectrum is reserved (quite) vs. outgoing oriented and the other spectrum is task vs. people focused.

How do I know what is my brand personality

Every day you look in the mirror, right? Next time you are near a mirror:
  • When you look ask yourself, "Do I feel more reserved (quite) or more outgoing oriented?"
  • Also, when you look ask yourself, "Do I feel more task or people focused?"
When we combine this orientation and this focus, we get 4 quadrants. So ask yourself, are you more:
  1. quiet and task focused? = Get it right
  2. outgoing and task focused? = Get it done
  3. outgoing and people focused? = Get appreciated
  4. quiet and people focused? = Get along
The test question:
Look at your what you just chose. What did you say to yourself how you felt most comfortable aligning your personality and your brand personality?

Again, the key is to follow your brand personality with your visibility. This includes your look and feel as well as your content.

How do I use this process to adjust my content?

As colors create moods and tell stories, which colors align with your brand? Also, which fonts best represent your brand?

So, does the way you share content show your influential personal brand? Therefore, around the world we see brands that demonstrate human characteristics or two spectrums.

Now you have a better idea of your style, your content, and examples to use. Therefore, you’ll see these fall into one category that will attract your audience and followers. People who also find your category comfortable are much more likely to connect with you.

Follow your guide when you create content, search for images/examples/quotes, or curate video clips. As a result, this will help you have a better idea how to focus and connect with your audience.

“The brands that connect with clients

in a real way, will win.”

Gary Vaynerchuk

A few EXAMPLES:
  1. Is your brand personality is more task focused and outgoing? You may want to use a video clip of Michael Jordan, the great winner.
  2. Does your brand personality feel more people focused and outgoing? You may want to use images with Richard Branson, the bold adventurer.
  3. Is your brand personality is more people focused and quiet? You may want to share stories about Mickey Mouse. Remember, Disneyland is the happiest place on earth.
  4. Does your brand personality portray quiet and task focused? You may want to quote Yoda from Star Wars as the wise old man.
