When you share your content, you never know when it could save or change someone’s life.

So, "Create great content" is your 6th point in the checklist to build your online influence. Remember, follow these points so you won't need to hire me to coach you through the process.

6 Points you need to create great content, part-1

In my coaching course I have a saying, “Sharing is caring.” When you share your content, you never know when it will save or change someone’s life.

Organic, or free, content can be one of the most compelling reasons influencers have followers. Though, remember you cannot just create, spray, and pray your content will work.

Here are some tips to make your content more compelling.

1. How will your community use your great content?

I’ve mentioned this in my blog before. There are 3 primary uses of content:
  1. Utility - education, problem solving, etc.
  2. Entertainment - stories, comedy, etc.
  3. Mixed - combination of the above.
Similar to the 2600 year old, ‘informative vs. persuasive’ academic debate, most content is mixed. So, good ‘utility’ content is entertaining. Also, good ‘entertainment’ most always has some utility.

Before you who are reading this put it in the comments, I know. Certainly, I need to add a lot more entertainment to my content. Thanks.

2. Formats to create great content for different audiences.

For example, your content can be:
  1. written posts / blogs,
  2. audio podcasts,
  3. video short or long form,
  4. visual images or drawings
  5. infographics and meme’s, etc.
Again, good content combines these formats too. So, a good written post will have images, video, graphics, etc.

Also, good podcasts and videos have written captions with them. And, who doesn’t look at captions under videos?

Then, we see popular Instagram influencers use captions well. Finally, infographics and memes have highly focused writing.

“No matter what you do, your job is to tell your story.” Gary Vaynerchuk.

You can use the Gary Vaynerchuk Content Model to share data. So, just create one piece of long form content. Then break it up into smaller content pieces and use it in several media.

3. Formulas for great content you need to go from boring to compelling.

Also, you need to use proven techniques for creating your posts in compelling ways. These formulas you can take your posts from boring to much more interesting and even compelling.

As examples these few formulas are quite often used in written copy for blogs, captions, infographics. They include:
  • A-I-D-A: Get Attention, build Interest, create Desire, and call for Action.
  • F-A-B: Explain Features And show Benefits of the features.
  • E-L-P: Give Ethics/reputation, show Logic, and ensite Passion/emotion.
  • I-L-A-B: Describe an Incident, share lesson Learned, show Action to take, explain Benefits of taking the action.
  • F-F-F: Empathize with customer Feelings, show how others Felt similar, share how others Found the benefits.
I will go into much more detail in future posts. Also, you can contact me to use our free content builders. As you answer questions in the builders, you walk through the process create content.

Remember, you may be only one post away from changing someone’s life. That may be your life too.

Check back tomorrow to see the conclusion to create great content - points 4-6, thanks.
