Share your experience to craft your expert image

Often my clients and students tell me they are uncomfortable telling others of their expertise. As a result, my response to them is to describe things you have done.

Just share your experience with your passion. Also, remember you are the worlds #1 expert on your point of view about your own passion.

I’m not asking you to “make-up” an expert status to share on your site or social media. Due to the internet, sooner or later everyone will know you made it up.

Don’t fake it until you make it

Don’t fake it until you make it. So, to build your own influential personal brand, you had better be good at your passion.

However, in this space you want to share your expertise. Though there is a distinction we want to highlight.

The distinction is between being good at your passion, and having others know you are good.

Being an expert vs others knowing your expertise

So, do others know about your expertise? Here are 5 areas you can focus bring out your expert image.

There is no way to deny the importance of having tonnes of experience with a topic before one has the right to be called an expert.

The previous posts have focused on asking you to answer questions, So, this blog will call on you to list experiences and accomplishments. Next, you can create your going forward plans.

Keep it simple and don't overthink this process. Also, think of this as telling your own origin story.

Your story is your point of view or 'come from' for all of your content online and offline. In fact, in most every piece of content, you will mention bits of your story.

5 Areas to start crafting your expert (experience) image

Area #1) First, list all the experience you have with your passion. So, include, years, clubs, positions, awards, etc.

Area #2) Next, name two or three related online, trade organizations, and any online FB and LI groups.

Area #3) Also, describe your research on your passion. Include, books, blogs, articles, videos you’ve consumed and summarized.

Area #4) Next, list your talks given, courses taught, articles published, videos produced, etc.

Area #5) Finally, describe your hand to hand combat. Include ongoing comment contributions you have been giving to topics in social media.

Also, below are some highlight ideas, trigger questions, and sample responses to open your mind. So, as you look at these ask yourself, how you feel they relate to your passion.

First, here are some highlight ideas.  So, spark the authentic part of you that has positive intent and gives you energy.

1. What part of your personal or professional life are you the best at that you also enjoy doing most?
2. You want to show the world what you most like doing, because that is the reputation you will build.
3. If you show stuff you don’t like doing, you could build a reputation for what you don’t like.
4. If you show what you like doing, you’ll end up getting more inquiries for what you do like.

Next, here are sample responses from my clients and students.

So, finish this statement: Some of my expert experiences include:
1. Working with mind's nature in all aspects of life
2. How to stay positive and become a better human being, especially in the mindfulness area.
3. How our mind (thinking) works
4. I like my job, medicine research.
5. I like running marathons.
6. I like going to restaurants.

Trigger questions

Also, here are some more trigger questions to help you stimulate ideas.

1. What can I talk about better than anyone else?
2. What do people approach you for help with?
3. What are you known for being an expert at doing?
4. What do you do that makes you a top expert at doing?

Professional vs Personal

In this section, I wanted to break down professional expertise and personal expertise. So I want to help you see differences you feel are important to tell others.

Now that we have, with the internet professions and personal passions mix. But, please keep them seperate for now.

Professional areas include coaching niche, etc.
1. What would your clients say you are great at doing to help them become successful clients?
2. How have your clients benefited from being with you?

Personal areas include Smurf custom clothing, etc.
1. What would your friends say you are great at?
2. What do you do differently from others?
