Your Brand is Your Reputation is Your Brand

Look at famous people you know of in the digital world. What is it that makes them interesting, likable, approachable, respectable? Again, what makes them authentic and trustworthy?

The most famous have posted information and pictures to build their positive image, reputation, or brand. Hence if you notice, they even post problems and challenges they have overcome.

When you craft your personal brand you will want to be authentic and trustworthy. So, you need to share your positive image as well as your problems or challenges.

What is your personal influential brand?

Your personal brand is your reputation. Therefore, in the digital world, it’s what you share so others can get to know and trust you.

Imagine, you’re the director of your own influential personal brand movie. As the director, you focus on your key characteristics to build your authenticity and trustworthiness.

You point your camera, and aim the lights and adjust the volume. So as director you captivate your audience, viewers, followers, or anyone else.

Questions to craft your personal brand

In my life coaching course I help my students craft their personal brand. First, we begin by reminding them of people they personally know and admire.

In the digital world your brand is simply what you show your audience. So, this includes your passion, your values, good things others say about you, and your expertise.

Also, share problems and struggles you have overcome, how you see the world will be different. As you can’t please everyone, remember to focus on giving your audience what they expect.

Here are 7 questions to guide building your personal brand:
1) What are you deeply passionate about and that truly excites you?
2) What are your core values?
3) When others talk about you what good things do they say about you?
4) What are your expert (professional and personal) areas?
5) Describe some struggles you have overcome to get you where you are?
6) How do you see the world will be different in 3 years?
7) What do your ideal audience expect when they see your content?

In this blog series, we will explain these questions in more detail. Then, you will see example questions and sample answers to help you get started.

The questions in the next blogs will help create your authentic personal brand. So remember to build an extension of who you are with both good and bad. Also, do not create a copied version of a competitor or someone else.

Once you craft your brand, you need to craft your brand with your content. Though, remember your personal brand will grow and evolve as your life evolves.

This is merely a highlight of your being, however it’s not a copy of someone else.

Value of your influential brand

After you craft your personal brand to dramatically increase your
  • attraction for others
  • influence credibility
  • engage attention
  • allure potential clients
  • attract major media exposure
Your brand is the likability factor or magnetism to instantly appeal to anyone in your audience. So, it’s very powerful and seductive especially when you want to play a bigger game.

According to personal branding expert, Ben Angel, your personal brand is: "Self expression highlighted to command attention and influence others."

It’s important to not manipulate your image to overcome / hide faults and avoid criticism. Also, you will want to show both your struggles and successes to help create your authenticity. Then, authenticity builds trust and makes it easier for your audience to follow and relate to you.

Where to share your personal brand

So, you are asking, “Where will I share my personal brand?” Good question, and here are a few opportunities to share:
  • In your elevator speech
  • Include in your online content
  • Part of your keynote talks
  • Share with clients and others
  • Include in introductions
The most important point is to live your brand. Because of the internet, if you don’t live your brand, the world will know.

Craft your personal brand and live your personal brand.
