Ever meet a stranger you instantly liked? or disliked?

Historically there are 4 primary personality styles we humans relate to most easily. Though this concept can be confusing for some, so I will add context.

But let me start by asking you some questions. First, have you ever walked into a room and met someone for the first time? Next, right after you saw or heard that person, you felt comfortable with her or him?

Also, maybe you felt the reverse. So, when you looked at or talked to a stranger, you didn’t like them at all?

How did you know you liked or disliked someone? The answer: the way they communicated or how you experienced their personality.

Does your influential personal brand have an attractive personality?

If not, when will you start building your personal brand personality?

Basic personality behaviors

At the most basic level, there are four factors that communicate personalities. Also, these factors can be placed on two continuums.
  1. First, is the person reserved (more quiet and consistent paced) or outgoing (talkative and faster?)
  2. Next, is the person more tasked focused (talks about tasks) or more people focused (talks about people?)
In my next few posts I will go into more detail about these behaviors. But this process works the same with brands.

So, what’s the point, you ask?  Certainly, you’ll be most effective when your brand aligns with your personality.

Then when the way you communicate naturally aligns with the way you communicate online. So the way you communicate online naturally is your brand.

Brands communicate with human characteristics

Have you ever thought a brand could have human personality characteristics? Most people would answer, “no.”

When you click the link button above you will answer questions on the Brand Personality Builder tool. As you go through you will see how most global brands have human personality characteristics.

The most difficult step for most is to communicate their personality to others. So to explain, you don’t just say, “My brand personality is happy and outgoing.”

Your personality is communicated in the things you say, show, and do. So, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.

Examples how brand personalities communicate

For example, look at a brand like NIKE. You see task focused characters who are goal driven and outgoing.

Next, when you hear about a brand like Red Bull what stands out? You will notice people focused who are outgoing and try new ways to have adventures.

Also, another example is when you see a brand like Disney. They show you folks enjoying family togetherness.

Finally, when we talk about Rolls Royce, we hear quiet terms like precision, detailed, and finely crafted tasks.
