The big secret: How to get global customers with content marketing tools

A while back at a conference I was listening to a speaker talk about content marketing tools in his global ad campaign. He said, “Sometimes my Facebook ads work and sometimes they don’t work in different cultures.”
This was a well respected and highly successful solo Gig Business owner. He spends between $20,000 and $40,000 every year on ads to promote himself and his products.
Yet, he said he struggled with getting the right ad language to help him get customers in other cultures. Although, the speaker was world class, the same happens to smaller solo Giggers too.
After that conference I was pretty full of myself and my “global-adjust” ideas. That’s because I mentor my clients to get customers around the world by adjusting to other cultures.

How can I connect new customers with content marketing tools?

Let me share an example of my client Beth, who told me she was frustrated and overwhelmed with her global campaigns. Beth and her husband had their own business and sold to customers across the globe.
Beth and I sat down one day and talked about her ads and her ad copywriting. It seems most all of her ad copy was written for her own country, Australia. All she was doing was split testing different forms of the same copy in other countries.
Next, Beth asked me what she could do to global-adjust her copy so she could get more customers. So, I asked Beth to tell me how she felt about her copywriting strategy for her content marketing.
She told me she had a content campaign schedule, but Beth said it seemed “half-baked.” That’s when we worked together to create her content marketing global-adjust strategic process.

Do this and you’ll get customers everywhere

Although Beth’s process focused on getting global customers, you can use this process to get local customers too. Beth’s process includes these 2 steps and 10 points, so she can culture-adjust her ad copy for her customers and the campaign..
Step 1: Adopt a Proven Strategy
  • Identify your target customer
    • What they want
    • What you provide
  • Define your relationship
  • Identify your brand values
  • Build from your mission statement
  • Set new customer goals
Step 2: Implement an Actionable Process
  • Outline the campaign (or situation)
  • Describe your customer’s response (action you want)
  • Create your plan to win customers (steps to adjust ad copy)
  • Implement your plan (launch your campaign)
  • Gather and assess feedback (analytics are a Gigger’s best friend)
After Beth had implemented this new strategy process, she has more than doubled her customers. Now her sales are much more consistent in countries where she had past mixed results. Also, she said she is consistently earning sales well over $10K per month.

Almost 99% will miss this critical info. There are many “half-baked” Gig side-business systems out there being touted as the next big thing.
It can sure get confusing when choosing the best type of business to get into at times, can’t it? Something you can get into part-time and bank an extra $500 to $10K per month?
Well…
Here’s the thing most do NOT consider: If you want to build up to your goal income with your own part-time, lifestyle friendly business?
You must look past the opportunity, and look at the “day-to-day” operations. Because we usually don’t see the storefront and all the moving parts of an online business?

Many forget that it’s still a BUSINESS. A business that takes employees and key staff, products and support, a sales team, and on and on the list goes…
Now here’s what I’m getting at. You don’t have to set all this up for yourself, as that could take years and years out of your life.
There are a few solid companies out there that will let you leverage their business. Here’s the one I highly recommend.
You still need to run most of the day to day operations. In fact, automate and outsource almost EVERYTHING that can be done for you. This doesn’t mean a free ride for you, but it is the simplest business model I’ve yet to come across.
Then you’ll apply ONE key skill to learn and do. And you’ll need to set aside 30 to 60 minutes per day to do it. If you meet that criteria? And if this looks like a good fit for you?

Look at these examples where Giggers say they have struggled and then globally adjusted s to overcome challenges to feel confident and build their Gig business to support their customer clans.
  • I was felt frustrated not getting customers from other countries, so I’ve automated and now I see I get regular feedback and analytics
  • I’ve saw my content was focused on my own culture, so I hired a mentor tell me better ways to get customers
  • My ad campaigns in other countries were inconsistent, so learned to use analytics to see what I needed and ask better questions to connect my customers
Write 3 ways you’ve felt frustrated and could global-adjust create your flow systems to have time to feel fully engaged developing yourself in your Gig and for your customer clan.
Look at your list and attack 1 (only one at a time but do try a new one every month) idea to apply this week:
  1. Write your your idea where you global-adjust your content marketing tools.
  2. List steps you see to overcome (e.g. digital media) to see opportunities and values for your clan.
  3. Give yourself a metric to measure progress. (e.g. I will set a webinar for my customer clan feedback and learn from them when they want.)
  4. Reward yourself after you have completed your steps to channel frustrations into unstoppable power.
Debrief: The point here is to get over your own “NO, I can’t,” response and develop yourself so you can have your business success and your optimal lifestyle.
If you are looking at this exercise and saying, “this feels awkward,” that is good. The important part is you will get used to it, as your life, family, and business depend on it.

Content Marketing Optimal Engagement Lifestyle

As a trainer and university lecturer in the USA, I had great success in my coaching, training, and classrooms by engaging my learners in ways I had learned from my Dale Carnegie Instructor Training. (optimal engagement)
After earning my Doctoral Degree researching engaging instruction in adult education and training and development, I started a training business in Hong Kong.
But something was wrong, I was struggling in this new culture (I’m a cattle rancher’s son from Colorado, USA) to find ways to inspire and motivate my coachees and students in Hong Kong.
With my coachees and in the classroom, I preferred having clients engage in learning activities instead of just talking. This is especially effective to keep clients engaged between coaching calls.
I struggled through trying several paper worksheets and workbooks to guide students, yet I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. (junk engagement)
When the smart phone with the ability to search the internet came along, I could see my clients were curating (i.e. searching, finding, collecting, commenting, changing, remixing, and sharing.)
I thought, “Why not do that for learning?”, so as a result, I started asking them to answer questions, interact with information and colleagues, and go find examples of the learning content using their mobile devices.

Content Marketing eWorkbook development and success

I began searching for possibilities and I struggled testing several apps, until we created best practices using eWorkbooks, and after testing them, began to use eWorkbooks as my clients always had their devices with them.
Then we used eWorkbooks (Google Forms with the training slides as well as interactive questions, curating links and tasksexample images and videos, etc.) This became powerful for my coaching clients as they were able to share ideas and get the benefits of social learning even though they were not in the training course or classroom.
My clients [Engaging Screenagers] completed eWorkbooks using their mobile devices as they were learning interactively while, at the same time, they were developing habits of learning with their devices (optimal engagement) instead of killing time with them. (junk engagement)
Students used eWorkbooks to while I lead the discussion and guided them, and after they submitted their answers, they would get their responses sent to their inbox so they could review their learning Moments of Growth(optimal engagement)
Because the students’ responses from eWorkbooks go right into a spreadsheet in real-time, as the teacher I can monitor what students are doing to give them guidance in the moment, as well as track their learning develop over time.
Since those early days, I’ve had great luck supporting my coaching clients and entrepreneur friends use Google forms for 360° reviews for evaluations as well as use eBrochures and eMenus to test new ideas and actively engage and actively interact with customers.
All client info has been scrubbed of identifying information unless they have given me specific, written permission to quote them.
