The other day I was talking about content marketing tools with my client Ryan. He told me he didn’t like to read long articles and said, “That’s why I hired you to do the reading for me.”
It’s true, my role is to keep up with the latest techniques and news so I can pass-on only what Ryan needs. But in this case Ryan is building his knowledge and skills to have fun as a power digital marketer.
Ryan went on to ask why he needed to write such long blogs for SEO. His question was, “If many people are like me and don’t like to read long text articles, why write them?”
This is a frustration for digital marketers, like Ryan, who write blogs to maintain or build their online presence and expert status. The trick is to make the ‘long text’ look like ‘short text’ by breaking the content.
Then Ryan and I sat down and went through several of his recent posts.  I could see his posts were missing an important element – subheads.
Subheads are great signpost guides that lead readers through your posts as an ongoing table of contents. As guides subheads also, help visually break-up the content with divisions so your story appears shorter.
Subheads can sell ideas, show personality, insite curiosity, share emotions, and surprise readers. So, after seeing these great opportunities, Ryan became too excited and wanted to use them everywhere.
Once he learned how to use subheads well, Ryan took the next step and started to “global-adjust” for his target cultures. As Ryan composes ad copy for different English speaking cultures, he learned to adjust words, and terms each culture prefers.
Just by adding subheads Ryan kicked it up a notch in his marketing and his results are rising. He told me when he looks at his growing numbers now he feels the fun and freedom he craves. Ryan is becoming the power digital marketer he wants to be.
Although, it is important to use subheads to guide readers, subheads have value for SEO too. Remember to include your featured keyword to help Google rank your post higher.
Here is your list of 8+ ways you need to culture-adjust your subheads connect with global customers.
  1. Write subheads with care like headlines
  2. Guide the flow with subheads as signposts
  3. Include 5 words or more in subheads
  4. Make text easier to read and visually break it up
  5. Show readers the part they’re looking for
  6. Sell each section to engage non-readers
  7. Tell your story so skimmers will share it
    • Show your personality with subheads
    • Insite readers’ curiosity with subheads
    • Surprise your readers with subheads
    • Make your subheads emotional
  8. Optimize your first subhead with your SEO keyword

Content Marketing Tools Support and Services:

My client Ryan is an interesting case. He left a great job in a good company to start his own Gig to live his optimal lifestyle. He knew there was more out there for him.
Do you know there’s more out there for you? It’s no surprise that many feel like a cog in the machine designed to make “other” people rich.
You ever feel that way too? Here’s the thing… If we’re not living life on OUR terms?
Then we’re likely stuck living our life on OTHER people’s terms. And usually they don’t have our best interests at heart!
Yet, imagine… A machine built for you? Designed around your ideal lifestyle. Built around living life on your terms. One where you fire up your laptop from your home office or a coffee shop…
And you’re earning enough to support your optimal lifestyle and more, while working just a couple hours each day. Sound too good to be true?
Well again, work is still required. But like Ryan’s case it’s fun work, and it’s work that can reward you VERY well…
There’s also a learning curve to start. Yet for many, this type of life has become their new, amazing reality. It all depends on the systems we set-up and use each day…

Do Not Let People Take Advantage. Exercise #12:

As a Gigger in the global Gig economy, how can you build your power to Not Let People Take Advantage to build your Gig business to the next level?

Look at these examples where Giggers say they built their power to not let people take advantage and found ways to overcome them to feel confident and build their Gig business to support their customer clans.
  • I was letting my customers from other countries take advantage, so I’ve automated so I get regular feedback and analytics to build power
  • I’ve found I my affiliate program was taking advantage of me, so I hired a mentor to help me see what’s best and build power
  • My suppliers from other cultures were taking advantage of me, so learned to use analytics and build my power
Write 3 ways you could build your power to not let people take advantage and create your flow systems to have time to feel fully engaged developing yourself in your Gig and for your customer clan.
Look at your list and attack 1 (only one at a time but do try a new one every month) idea to apply this week:
  1. Write your your idea where you could not let people take advantage.
  2. List steps you see to overcome (e.g. digital media) to see opportunities and values for your clan.
  3. Give yourself a metric to measure progress. (e.g. I will set a webinar for my customer clan feedback and learn from them when they want.)
  4. Reward yourself after you have completed your steps to channel frustrations into unstoppable power.
Debrief: The point here is to get over your own “NO, I can’t,” response and develop yourself so you can have your business success and your optimal lifestyle.
If you are looking at this exercise and saying, “this feels awkward,” that is good. The important part is you will get used to it, as your life, family, and business depend on it.

Content Marketing Tools & Optimal Engagement Lifestyle

As a trainer and university lecturer in the USA, I had great success in my coaching, training, and classrooms by engaging my learners in ways I had learned from my Dale Carnegie Instructor Training. (optimal engagement)
After earning my Doctoral Degree researching engaging instruction in adult education and training and development, I started a training business in Hong Kong.
But something was wrong, I was struggling in this new culture (I’m a cattle rancher’s son from Colorado, USA) to find ways to inspire and motivate my coachees and students in Hong Kong.
With my coachees and in the classroom, I preferred having clients engage in learning activities instead of just talking. This is especially effective to keep clients engaged between coaching calls.
I struggled through trying several paper worksheets and workbooks to guide students, yet I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. (junk engagement)
When the smart phone with the ability to search the internet came along, I could see my clients were curating (i.e. searching, finding, collecting, commenting, changing, remixing, and sharing.)
I thought, “Why not do that for learning?”, so as a result, I started asking them to answer questions, interact with information and colleagues, and go find examples of the learning content using their mobile devices.

Content marketing tools eWorkbook development challenges and successes.

I began searching for possibilities and I struggled testing several apps, until we created best practices using eWorkbooks, and after testing them, began to use eWorkbooks as my clients always had their devices with them.
Then we used eWorkbooks (Google Forms with the training slides as well as interactive questions, curating links and tasksexample images and videos, etc.) This became powerful for my coaching clients as they were able to share ideas and get the benefits of social learning even though they were not in the training course or classroom.
My clients [Engaging Screenagers] completed eWorkbooks using their mobile devices as they were learning interactively while, at the same time, they were developing habits of learning with their devices (optimal engagement) instead of killing time with them. (junk engagement)
Students used eWorkbooks to while I lead the discussion and guided them, and after they submitted their answers, they would get their responses sent to their inbox so they could review their learning Moments of Growth(optimal engagement)
Because the students’ responses from eWorkbooks go right into a spreadsheet in real-time, as the teacher I can monitor what students are doing to give them guidance in the moment, as well as track their learning develop over time.
Since those early days, I’ve had great luck supporting my coaching clients and entrepreneur friends use Google forms for 360° reviews for evaluations as well as use eBrochures and eMenus to test new ideas and actively engage and actively interact with customers.
All client info has been scrubbed of identifying information unless they have given me specific, written permission to quote them.
